A butterscotch brownie is more appropriately called a butterscotch blondie as it is a type of blond brownie. Blond Brownies were actually created before the chocolate brownies. I do not the original name of a the blondie, it was most likely just another cookie or cake recipe to the first people who made this treat.

The butterscotch is made up of brown sugar and butter melted together. These two ingredients plus flour and leavening agents such as eggs and baking soda are the main ingredients for butterscotch brownies. Many recipes also call for chopped nuts.
