March 2nd: National Banana Cream Pie Day
The cream pie filling is traditionally made with milk, cream, flour and eggs to create a custard. You may also use a package of “pudding and pie filling” made popular by Kraft to make a pie quicker and easier! There is no one right way to make a banana cream pie, some recipes call for meringue on top of the pie, others call for a whipped cream topping. Some people prefer a pastry crust while others prefer a graham cracker or Nilla crust. This is the perfect pie to experiment with!
During the 1950’s Banana Cream Pie’s were rated the #1 favourite dessert among the US Armed Forces.
